In June 2016, Michael Centeno, a New Jersey Institute of Technology attendee joined the Adler Windows family as our first ever summer intern. We decided to sit down with the talented architecture student and get to know him a little better….
Michael Centeno, Intern – NYC Showroom Office
Where do you live? New Jersey.
What school did/do you attend? I am currently attending NJIT.
What course are you studying? I am currently in my second year of studying Architecture.
What inspired you to choose this career path? I have always had a really strong interest in art and design so I was naturally drawn to architecture.
Any previous work experience? Last summer I interned at the non-profit Barat Foundation that gives students the chance to experience and create art.
What kind of tasks do you do daily at AW? My daily role involves carrying out Landmark Preservation research, scheduling window installations, annotating drawings and assisting the Senior Sales Associate, Sales Manager and Business Development Director.
Why did you choose to apply for the AW internship program? I chose to apply to this program as I really wanted to broaden my knowledge of architecture and this industry outside of my specific field.
What have you learnt so far from your internship in AW?
I have learned the ins and outs of how a thriving NYC window installation company.
What aspect of your internship have you enjoyed the most?
I really enjoy researching NYC projects, getting to out my drawing skills to use and working with the Adler Windows team.
What do you hope to accomplish by the end of your internship?
I hope to have acquired a new set of skills that I would only learn through such a hands on internship as this has been. I am definitely learning so much more than I had imagined and a lot of valuable information that I would not have learned through my course.
As your first internship in NYC – what is your favorite and least favorite aspect of working in the city?
That’s a hard one -my favorite is getting to work in the city, my least favorite is the commute!
