This presentation looks at historic renovation projects. Research, planning, window assessment, standards, and historic tax credits are reviewed by Mike Mitchell from Marvin Windows and Doors. A broad range of window rehabilitation solutions will be shown through case studies of historic projects.

This presentation will cover the reasoning behind energy codes and the code adoption process, as well as code differences in the various climate regions of North America. Marty Biskup of AGC Glass will discuss code compliance tools, methodology and designing with glass to meet the requirements of energy efficient buildings.

March 9th – Understanding NYC’s Landmark Preservation Commission In Relation To Replacement Windows

This presentation will cover an in-depth explanation of New York City’s Landmark Preservation Commission (LPC). Ross Adler, President of Adler Windows, will explore the application process for LPC approval and the permits that are required for specific window replacement projects in the City.
  • Outline the rules of Title 63 which contains the regulations of New York City’s LPC.
  • Define when a permit is and is not required for a window replacement project in New York City’s historic districts.
  • Distinguish the various types of permits available while undergoing a window replacement project in a New York City landmarked area.
  • Define the design and timing requirements of an LPC window project in relation to the permit application process.

May 3rd – Emerging Technologies

This presentation will cover manufacturing differences in window thermal technology through a review of current (American) and emerging (European) manufacturing designs, the advantages of new window hardware technology, innovative window frame installation options – that are readily available via the evolving Polyamide technology, and specific characteristics of specialty windows including blast, energy and acoustic. It will also discuss LEED’s mission, the structure of its governing board, and its impact on the window and building industries.

May 17th – The New Energy Code in NYC – Impacts for Designers and Developers/Owners

As building energy codes become more stringent, the design and construction community must be aware of new criterion under stricter requirements. The New York City Energy Conservation Code enforces a set of standards additional to those required by the state. This presentation will review the general layout of the energy code on both the State and City levels, discuss notable changes in the new code, and highlight common plan exam objections encountered by project teams on multifamily buildings and evaluate solutions.

Canceled: June 21st -Ensuring compliance of Fenestration with Today’s Energy Codes and Green Standards

The green building industry is transforming and with this change comes new more stringent industry standards. This course will explore how to select fenestration envelope systems that comply with current codes and recent developments in green standards, including ICC and ASHRAE codes and standards. Industry leading design concepts for curtain wall, storefront and windows illustrate how to comply. Learn how to simulate building performance with AAMA 507, NFRC standards and CMA programs.

Adler Windows AIA Boat Cruise

Guided by members of the American Institute of Architects, the New York City architecture tour will take you on a full circumnavigation of the island of Manhattan. During the 2-hour and 45-minute cruise, you will explore recent and innovative skyscrapers, residential “Starchitecture”, enduring Art Deco and Beaux Arts icons as well as waterfront parks and infrastructure.  The newest features of the evolving Manhattan, Brooklyn, Queens and Bronx waterfronts are seen in comfort and style, from the climate-controlled, enclosed back deck observatory or from our open bow for some fresh air and sunlight.
